For the first exhibition of 2018 Convent is pleased to present Na(me/am), a solo project by Japanese artist Yuki Okumura (°1978, Aomori). Okumura’s artistic practice predominantly departs from a kinship with works and lives of other artists, resulting in conceptual, yet deeply personal works presented in a wide array of media. For the exhibition at Convent, Okumura will reinterpret and recontextualize his 2016 audio installation Away from the Light of Greenwich: I Met On Kawana, an adaptation of Katsusuke Miyauchi's novel Grinijji no hikari wo hanarete (Away from the Light of Greenwich). In this book, the well-known Japanese conceptual artist On Kawara (1932, Kariya, Aichi - 2014, New York) appears as a fictional character.

Opening on Friday January 5, 8pm. On Sunday January 7, starting from 3 pm, a talk by the artist will take place in Convent.

Voor de eerste tentoonstelling van 2018 stelt Convent met plezier Na(me/am) voor, een soloproject van de Japanse kunstenaar Yuki Okumura (°1978, Aomori). Okumura's artistieke praktijk vertrekt hoofdzakelijk uit een verwantschap met het werk en leven van andere kunstenaars, resulterend in conceptuele, doch zeer persoonlijke werken die hij presenteert in diverse media. Voor de tentoonstelling in Convent herinterpreteert en recontextualiseert Okumura zijn geluidsinstallatie Away from the Light of Greenwich: I Met On Kawana uit 2016, een adaptatie van Katsusuke Miyauchi's roman Grinijji no hikari wo hanarete (Away from the Light of Greenwich). In dit boek verschijnt de bekende Japanse conceptuele kunstenaar On Kawara (1932, Kariya, Aichi - 2014, New York) als een fictief personage.

Opening op vrijdag 5 januari om 20u. Op zondag 7 januari zal er om 15u een lezing van de kunstenaar plaatsvinden in Convent.
